Well, first: I got a cold. Great, huh? Work were mostly okay today, but I had to finish christmas-shopping today and had only two hours. For my parents, I could get the stuff from my work. A person-balance, egg-cook-machine and a hand mixxer. For my brother I got an ice-wine, his wife gets a thriller-novel, "Song of Kali" (she loves those) and my cute niece gets a Lego-Duplo - Zoo-Set. My father also ordered from us a new TV and I got him a Samsung UE40B7090 Awesome item! FullHD, 100Hz, integrated cable-Tuner and many tools. I can even attach my external HDD and can watch movies directly from the HDD on the TV. By the way, my father is in the hospital in Chemnitz. He watches there already since a month over the persian carpet shop of a friend of our familiy, but he slipped there on the ground, now is his upper thigh broken. He won't be able to be with us on the chrismas eve... Oh well, once he's back, he can watch TV in an awesome way. Current Mood: sick Current Music: Rammstein - Engel

Today, I observed another one of those long-time Christmas traditions in our household: Banana nut bread. This has been something which has been done in our house for as far back as I can remember. My grandmother would always do this at Christmastime, and when I was old enough, I would help her with it. And when she passed away just two weeks before Christmas in 2001, I wondered if it was worth carrying on in her absence. Mom convinced me that I should go ahead and do it. I'll never forget us trying the first batch I made on my own. We felt it was just as good as any my grandmother had made, a tribute to her memory at this time of the year. And as a result, I've continued to make it each Christmas, using the same recipe that she used herself, and keeping the extras frozen until ready to eat, as well as the current loaf refrigerated, just as she always did. To me, Christmas celebrations are all about tradition. It gives you something to look forward to at this time of year, because you don't get it at any other time. I'm not saying that change is bad or anything like it. I just like to go by that old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Good traditions are always worth carrying on.
